Course Summary

This fun introduction to screen acting teaches students how to act on camera through a series of fun games, exercises and challenges.

Focusing on the key differences between theatre and screen, this session is great for beginners or those who are relatively new to screen performance and are looking to understand the techniques of TV and film and wish to gain confidence in acting for camera.

Students will get to see themselves back several times as we review exercises shot across the the workshop, opening up the chance for discussion as to what makes a great screen performance and developing self awareness around areas for development going forward.

What we cover

• Acting warm up games: An introduction to screen acting and performance principles through a series of fun games.

• Acting truthfully onscreen: Learn to find realism onscreen.

• Introduction to a professional set: includes onset roles, hitting your mark, camera angles and more!

• Screen vs theatre: Explore the key differences between the two mediums.

• Camera acting technique: These tips will prep you for further screen experience.

• Scene experience: How scenes are shot.

• Playing your objective: With a focus on intention, obstacle and stakes this brilliant exercise gives you the foundations for playing any scene.

• Script reading: Apply your learning to text work.

• The foundations of improvising.

• Personal ticks + tips: Watch yourself back to learn about your performance style and habits.

• On camera experience: Act in a short film or scene shot by a junior camera person.
