Course Summary

In our TV Comedy School participants study the comedy greats and learn to write, act, shoot, star in and edit their own comedy sketches, scenes or short films.

Forming production teams, this wonderfully whacky course will help participants to find their comedy style and create comedy characters across a range of onscreen mediums.

From how to generate ideas to finding the truth that ignites your comedy, students end up in a race against the clock to get ideas agreed, shot and edited before a screening and awards ceremony at the end of the week.

What we cover

• Free yourself up as actors, comedians and writers through our fun filled comedy team building games.

• Working on a professional set: includes onset roles, hitting your mark, continuity, camera angles, eye line and much more!

• Study the comedy greats from Chaplin, the three stooges and Mr Bean, right through to Mr Beast, Jenji Kohan, Memes and the best of Tick Tock.

• Develop your comedic style: Find a comedic style that suits your personality and taste.

• Build a character onscreen: covering acting and comedy techniques from the world’s top acting and comedy institutes.

• Screen vs theatre: Explore the key difference between the two mediums.

• Voice and movement masterclass: Free up your voice and body in these comedic sessions.

• Script writing and idea generation: How to come up with ideas, write jokes and funny scenes.

• Visual comedy: the power of colour, costume and props.

• Comedy script analysis to help with your own ideas.

• The foundations of improvising: you’ll never be stuck for words or ideas again.

• Tips on how to direct and manage a shoot, select locations, costume, props etc.

• Camera and editing kit including Minicams, tripod, light reflectors professional iMac computers for editing.

• Course leader and assistant/ editor, hand selected with professional industry experience and or training.

This workshop is great for building confidence, developing passion and giving students a humourous comedy making experience. Participants will have their own comedic video project to take home at the end of the week and it’s great for positive mental health!
